Description
Cobalt dye stains a superficial layer of decayed dentin, distinguishing it from the underlying dentin. This layered staining allows for minimal removal of decayed dentin and serves as a useful guide in conservative caries removal.
Applications:
- Checking for complete removal of caries
- Identification of residual caries after removal of obvious caries, especially in the subcuspative areas or in the peripheral seal zone complete caries removal method
- Determining a clear boundary between healthy and infected dentin, especially in cases of secondary dentin formation that has a different color.
- Finding the orifices of the canals at the level of the pulp chamber
- Finding small cracks
- Showing the patient the decayed areas of the tooth
- Demonstration of decayed areas for training dentists (for extracted teeth)
