Cobalt Porcelain Etch IFU

Product Description:

Cobalt Porcelain Etch is a hydrofluoric acid gel formulated with a specific polymer-based thickening agent, providing the gel with optimal viscosity. The application of hydrofluoric acid on dental porcelain surfaces induces surface roughness, increases the surface free energy of the porcelain, and enhances its wettability by cement. This product is applied to the internal surfaces of dental porcelains, such as crowns and veneers, facilitating better cement penetration into the created micro-porosities and enhancing bond strength.

Cobalt Porcelain Etch mimics the effects of sandblasting but offers a more controlled and efficient process. Additionally, hydrofluoric acid creates hydroxyl groups on the porcelain surface, which, when followed by the application of silane coupling agents, enables a chemical bond with resin cement.

Advantages:

  • Easy to apply and control
  • It does not cause staining on composite or ceramic surfaces
  • Quick and efficient rinsing
  • Available in two concentrations: 6% and 9%, chosen based on the type and composition of the restoration.

Indications:

  • Pre-cementation of porcelain restorations, including veneers, inlays, onlays, and crowns.
  • Repair of defective porcelain restorations.
  • Pre-bonding of orthodontic brackets to porcelain crowns.

Instructions for Use:

  1. For Repairing Defective Porcelain Restorations:
    • Lightly refresh the target surface using a high-speed diamond bur before applying the gel. Apply the hydrofluoric acid for 90 seconds.
    • Thoroughly rinse the acid. After drying the surface, ensure the formation of a chalky appearance on the porcelain.
    • Continue with the bonding protocol by applying silane according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. For Cementation of Porcelain Restorations:
    • Apply Cobalt Porcelain Etch uniformly to the entire internal surface of the restoration. Rinse the acid thoroughly after 30 to 120 seconds, depending on the type of porcelain.
    • If the porcelain surface does not exhibit a chalky appearance, repeat the etching process.
    • For intraoral use, adhere strictly to protective protocols (use of a rubber dam and protective eyewear).

Clinical Considerations:

  • Avoid re-etching porcelain restorations that have been etched in the laboratory, as this may weaken the restoration.
  • Refrain from using the etchant on glazed surfaces, as it may create surface roughness and diminish the gloss.
  • Before application, test the gel on a glass slab to become familiar with the pressure required for gel extrusion from the syringe. This will help prevent excessive release.
  • If the gel is difficult to dispense, replace the syringe needle.
  • After using the acid gel, replace the syringe needle and cap the syringe tightly to prolong the shelf life of the product.
  • This product is strictly intended for dental use only.

Warnings:

  • Hydrofluoric acid is highly hazardous and corrosive. Therefore, during use:
    • If the product accidentally splashes into the eyes, immediately irrigate with copious amounts of water and seek medical attention.
    • The product emits toxic fumes; minimize prolonged exposure.
    • Always wear protective gloves and safety glasses during application.
    • For intraoral use, ensure the use of a rubber dam.
    • Prolonged contact of the product with skin or mucosal tissues can cause damage. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
    • This product is not intended for use as an etchant for enamel or dentin.
    • Prevent ingestion of the product.
    • Before intraoral use, test the flow of the material on a slab to gauge the necessary pressure for dispensing.
    • After each use, secure the cap tightly. Leaving the syringe open for extended periods can increase the gel’s viscosity, rendering it unusable.

Storage Conditions:

  • Store at temperatures between 5°C and 25°C.
  • Do not use after the expiration date.
  • Protect from direct sunlight.
